Percentage Based Interactive Discounts

Written by Ben

Interactive Discounts provide a flexible way to offer percentage or dollar amount discounts on your proposals. Save commonly used discounts in your Discount Catalog or create custom discounts as needed during the proposal process.

Create Percentage Based Interactive Discounts (Catalog)

If your team regularly offers the same percentage discounts, you can create them in the Discount Catalog so they are available when building proposals.

To create a Percentage Based Interactive Discount:

  1. Navigate to Office > Discounts.

  2. Click Create Discount.

  3. Enter a Discount Description which is the name of the discount

  4. Under Discount Type, select Percentage Based.

  5. Enter the Percentage.

  6. Save the discount.

Note: Percentage-based discounts are only available as Interactive Discounts to ensure the discount percentages always reflect the final price presented to the homeowner.

Select Percentage Based Interactive Discounts When Building Proposal

While building a proposal, you can add Interactive Discounts from your Discount Catalog or create custom discounts on the fly.

To add an Interactive Discount:

3. Click Add to Proposal.

The Interactive Discount will now appear on the proposal.

  2. Enter a Reason to apply discount which is the name of the discount.

  3. Select the Discount Type:

    • Percentage

    • Dollar Amount

  5. Choose whether the discount should be applied automatically

  6. Click Save.

The custom Interactive Discount will immediately be added to the proposal.

Review Interactive Discounts in the Inspector

The Inspector includes a Consumer Sale Price field that represents the price shown to the homeowner on both the Presented and Accepted proposal.

Consumer Sale Price includes:

  • Total Sale Price

  • Commission

  • Financing Markup

  • Rebate Contribution Markup

  • Price Adjustments contributions

When a Percentage Based Interactive Discount is added, the percentage is calculated against the Consumer Sale Price. This makes it easy to see exactly what value the percentage discount is being applied to.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do interactive discounts impact the discount limit?

Interactive Discounts count toward your company's configured discount limit.

If applying an Interactive Discount would cause the proposal to exceed the allowed discount limit, the discount cannot be applied. This ensures the discount limit set up by admin users cannot be exceeded.

Note: The Remove Financing Markup interactive discounts do not count toward the discount limit because they are only intended to offset financing markups.

How are the Discount Limit and Max Interactive Discount % Are Calculated?

The Discount Limit and the max % you can enter on an Interactive Discount are calculated on two different numbers — so they won't always match, and that's expected.

  • The Discount Limit is a % of the Total Sale Price (before commission, financing markup, or rebate adjustments). This protects your actual job margin, not an inflated number that includes those markups.

  • The Interactive Discount is a % of the Consumer Sale Price (Total Sale Price + commission + financing markup + rebate/round-up adjustments). It has to work this way so the discount % makes sense on the homeowner's proposal.

Because these use different bases, your Discount Limit % and the max Interactive Discount % will usually be different numbers, even though they protect the same dollar amount.

Example

Admin sets a Discount Limit of 10%.

Amount

Total Sale Price

$10,000

Commission (10%)

$1,000

Financing Mark-up (5%)

$550

Consumer Sale Price

$11,550

  • Discount Limit: 10% × $10,000 = $1,000

  • Max Interactive Discount %: $1,000 ÷ $11,550 = 8.66%

Same dollar protection ($1,000) — just expressed as a smaller percentage because it's measured against a larger number.

How do interactive discounts impact commission & financing mark-up

Percentage Based Interactive Discounts are applied after commission and financing markups have already been calculated.

This allows the discount percentage to accurately reflect the Consumer Sale Price shown to the homeowner rather than changing as markups are recalculated.
